While a first aid kit is just one part of your overall safety plan, here are some important items it should include:

  • First aid manual
  • Emergency phone numbers
  • At least two pairs of sterilized gloves (latex free)
  • Sterilized gauze of varying sizes
  • Adhesive bandages of varying sizes
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Burn ointment
  • Antiseptic solution/wipes and/or hydrogen peroxide for wound cleansing
  • Scissors
  • Medical tape
  • Tweezers
  • Hydrocortisone cream
  • CPR administering equipment
  • Instant cold packs
  • Thermometer
  • Eye wash solution
  • Acetaminophen, aspirin, and ibuprofen
  • Blanket

All items should be stored in a durable container that is easy to transport and open.  Your kit should be easily accessible to adults but not children.  Depending on the size and number of facilities on your church property, it may be necessary to have multiple first aid kits as every high traffic area should be equipped with one.

Remember!

It is also important to regularly check your first aid kits.  Be sure to replenish used items and replace expired products as needed.

Finally, your first aid kit should reflect your church’s unique hazards.  It may be recommended that your church keep additional items on hand to help keep visitors safe depending on your risks.  If you are unsure of what items to keep in your kit, contact your local police or fire department.
